DGA luminaires for SPOTT

An encounter between architecture, community and people

Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve is not a town like any other. It is a veritable urban planning laboratory created to put human relations, pedestrian flows and the idea that spaces should talk to each other back into the centre. In this lively scenario pulsates SPOTT - Centre Culturel d'Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, a fundamental reference point for the cultural life of the entire Brabant Wallon province. Housed in a building from the late 1970s, son of Marcel Lambrichs' functionalist and geometric architecture, the centre has recently redesigned its identity. And it has done so starting with its name: "SPOTT" evokes the world of show business, but above all, it tells of the desire to light a beacon on culture, projecting a beam of light straight towards the community.

To give visual form to this energy, LightAddict signed a careful and sensitive lighting design, choosing the precision of DGA luminaires. The challenge was fascinating and complex: to give light to a historical place where theatre, music, dance and visual arts coexist, respecting the rigour of the original lines with absolute discretion, but giving the spaces total freedom of use.

Giving space for flexibility: light as emotion

At the heart of LightAddict's design lies a profound understanding of what a cultural centre is today. SPOTT is a living place, constantly changing its skin. The halls and common areas that tonight host a performance or an exhibition - and therefore need bold accents and three-dimensional shadow effects - tomorrow could become a space for a debate, a party or a simple meeting, where soft, welcoming and relaxed light is needed.

Light Addict chose DGA luminaires precisely for this reason: for their ability to accommodate the metamorphosis of the centre naturally. The aim was simple but ambitious: to offer the public visual comfort, without glare or distraction, letting only architecture, performance and emotions do the talking.

DGA technology at the service of culture

Aurora Zoom 3000: the freedom to shape the atmosphere

In the areas dedicated to exhibitions and cultural activities, the Aurora Zoom 3000 projectors have proved to be the perfect tool to support the flexibility LightAddict has envisaged. The strength of this fixture lies in its ability to shape the width of the light beam with a simple gesture, acting directly on the luminaire. It means being able to tailor light around a work of art or a scene, enhancing volumes or focusing the visitor's gaze exactly where it is needed.

Recessed downlights: embracing ambient light

For corridors and transit areas, the choice fell on recessed luminaires with spring mounting. Here the requirement was for maximum visual clarity: the luminaires had to integrate into the ceilings almost to the point of becoming invisible. The result is a soft, comfortable ambient light that eliminates any glare and accompanies the audience's steps from one room to the next in total harmony.

A new light for SPOTT

Today, SPOTT welcomes its community with a completely renewed atmosphere. Working in deep synergy with LightAddict's design vision, DGA contributed to give shape and substance to the image that defines the centre's new identity. An intervention that demonstrates how technological innovation and attention to detail can discreetly put themselves at the service of people and beauty.
